Raymond Gunnin Bio

Cherokee County Fire Chief, Raymond Gunnin, has an Associate’s Degree, granted by DeKalb College, in Fire Science Technology. He has obtained numerous professional certificates from accredited institutions, including: Georgia Fire Academy, National Fire Academy, International Association of Fire Fighters, International Association of Fire Chiefs, Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.

Chief Gunnin began his career as a volunteer firefighter for the Little River Fire Department in 1977. Three years later, he became a full time career firefighter for the Little River Fire Department where he served the community for twelve (12) years.

In 1992, Raymond Gunnin became a Lieutenant for the Cherokee County Fire Department and was promoted to Captain in 1996. After three (3) years as Captain in the Fire Department, he was promoted to Battalion Chief. He served as Senior Battalion Chief for a year (2004-2005). In each of these roles, Raymond has been integrally involved and engaged in the Cherokee County Fire Department in various capacities, including:
  • Served as a safety officer in charge of Task Force for the G-8 Summit
  • Developed a plan and completed ISO evaluation which was instrumental in lowering the County’s District One to a Class 5, resulting in lower homeowner premiums
  • Developed specifications from concept to bid to delivery of numerous apparatus, clothing, equipment, etc. for the fire department
  • Served on and /or chaired numerous departmental committees

Chief Gunnin is a member of Antioch Christian Church. He resides in Woodstock with his wife, Cindy, and son, Noah.
