Late Morning Fire Causes Damage to Clayton Food Store

January 13, 2021

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a commercial fire call, just shortly before 10:30 this morning, at the Clayton Food store located at the intersection of Upper Burris Road and Land Road in the Clayton Community.

A caller to Cherokee 911 reported that the grill in the back of the building was on fire.  Cherokee County firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the one-story commercial building.  Firefighters begin an offensive attack on the fire and later did a primary search of the building.  The fire was brought under control at 10:53 this morning.

The building had fire, smoke and water damage and it is uncertain at this time as to when the store will be able to re-open.  Investigators with Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services continue their investigation at this time.  No injuries were reported. Portions of the intersection were blocked until the operation was complete.
