Students from Hickory Flat Elementary School, located at 2755 East Cherokee Drive, in Canton, delivered toys last Friday to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services to assist with their annual toy drive for Toys for Tots.
According to Ping Segars, “Kady Carroll, a 5th grade teacher at the school is responsible for putting this event together and she worked so hard on it, too.” Children were asked to bring in a new, unwrapped toy to the school starting on Monday, December 7th and going until Friday, December 11th. During that five-day period, the students collected 611 toys for Toys for Tots.
“The students did a tremendous job to collect so many toys during a short time and their donation will bring lots of smiles from children this holiday season,” stated Tim Cavender, Public Information Officer for the fire department.
Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services will be collecting toys at all of the county fire stations until this Friday, December 18th. Donations for toys has been down this year, so please contribute and help a child have a joyous Christmas.
