Late Afternoon Fire Destroys Home on Edwards Mill Road

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire yesterday afternoon at approximately 4:15 at 1428 Edwards Mill Road located off Highway 372 between Ball Ground and Free Home.

Cherokee County 911 received a call stating that they could see smoke and flames coming from the one-story structure.  Squad 4 arrived on the scene first to report that there was heavy smoke.  On scene command later said that the 1500 square foot home was fully involved.

The homeowner, 58-year-old Dennis Kimbrell, stated that he was at work when he received a phone call stating that his house was on fire.  The American Red Cross was dispatched to the scene to assist Mr. Kimbrell.

The fire was brought under control approximately an hour later, but the home was completely destroyed. A portion of Edwards Mill Road was blocked until the fire operation was complete.  No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
