Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services won the Annual Guns
and Hoses 5 K Run this past weekend for the fourth year in a row. The run,
which is sponsored by the Cherokee County Recreation and Parks Agency,
was held this past Saturday at Hobgood Park near Towne Lake.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee
County Sheriff's Office solicit registrations from runners to raise money for
two charity causes. The event was open to the public and runners were
asked to pick the team they wanted to run for, Guns or Hoses, and $5.00 of
their registration fee was donated to their respective organization.
The fire department donated their winnings to the Kaleidoscope ABA
(Applied Behavioral Analysis) School which specializes in children with autism.
According to Neely Motiejunas, with the Cherokee County Recreation
and Parks Agency, a total of 407 runners participated in the event with 212
runners signed up for the fire department, while 195 signed up with the
sheriff's office. The Kaleidoscope House, located in Canton, Georgia, will
receive a check in the amount of $1060.
Several Cherokee County firefighters and their family members ran in
the event this year, with some of the firefighters running in their turnout
gear. Cherokee County firefighter, Eric Robidou, ran the 3.2 mile event in
his turn-out gear in 22 minutes and 11 seconds. He beat his previous time
from last year by 10 seconds.
