FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAMS:
Freddie The Fire Truck
Freddie the Fire Truck is an exciting new way to teach fire safety to children Pre-K through grade 2. A fully animated robot, Freddie moves, speaks, listens, plays audio cassette tapes, sounds his sirens and for those not listening, Freddie may also activate his water. He can wink and blink and move his eyes, with his friendly smile, he presents a positive non-threatening way to teach young children the dangers of smoke and fire. He can be used with great success in school classrooms, assemblies, local fairs, day cares or church groups within the Cherokee County.
Fire Safety House - A mocked-down, split-level version of a private home on a trailer. Infused with theatrical smoke to simulate real-life fire conditions, participants practice effective fire evacuation techniques in a realistic setting. An excellent tool for teaching home escape plans - a fundamental fire safe behavior. Geared towards large groups of adolescents, the Fire Safety House is towed to schools, street fairs and large community events.
5th Grade Fire Prevention Course – Each year, Fire Educators with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services visit many of the 5th grade classes to talk about fire prevention. The classes are a part of the school’s curriculum and covers fire department history, burns, fire chemistry, extinguishers, alarms, safety and developing a home escape plan. Students are tested and receive a certificate at the conclusion of the course.

The Juvenile Fire Setter's Program - This program is designed to discover what motivates a child caught playing with fire. If we discover the motivation, then the appropriate intervention can be planned and implemented. In the past, fires attributed to juveniles were few and taken in stride. Over the years however, there has been a noticeable increase in the frequency of juvenile related incidents. Thus the need for a program to intervene in this fire setting behavior cycle became evident.

It is the objective of Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services to prevent the recurrence of fire play and fire setting incidents. The implementation of short-term evaluation, education, referrals and redirection are designed to meet these objectives.

The fire safety educators work with the Juvenile Court System in Cherokee County in counseling juveniles involved in fire setting.
